In a thrilling final-16 tie, world number one Judd Trump triumphed over Shaun Murphy to advance to the World Championship quarter-finals.

When Trump took the lead 12-6, Murphy capitalized by capturing four frames straight after missing a red in the middle pocket.

However, in the quarter-final against either 2016 runner-up Ding Junhui or 2018 champion 2019 champion Trump held his nerve to take the 23rd frame for a 13-10 victory.

If he wins the world title, which is worth $500,000, the 35-year-old could become the first player to top $2 million in prize money in a single season.

Trump stated to BBC Two, “Shaun was in a world of his own for four or five frames, and I was a little worried, but I had to back myself in that final frame.”

I’ve struggled with myself in the past, but now I’m much more resilient mentally and can use the losses as inspiration.

This year, I’m much more confident and hitting the ball much better. I feel much more confident in myself and feel much more at ease.

He continued, “Pretty much every day you play], you are looking to that next session every time.

We are not even halfway there, they say, “it only gets tougher.” With his current form, playing Shaun was a very difficult task at this point.
