Tony Adams, who played Adam Chance in the soap opera Crossroads, passed away at the age of 84. With his wife Christine by his side, Adams passed away on Saturday at Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
After a remarkable run of more than 4,500 episodes, where Adams remained until the very end, the soap came to an end.
Jane Rossington and Kathy Staff, who were also in the original cast, were cast back in 2001 when the soap made a comeback.
Following the announcement of his death, a slew of tributes. Adams was portrayed in the drama by Augustus Prew, and during interviews at the time, he was fondly remembered as a “magical man.”
The Michael Rose Organisation Ltd.’s Michael Rose paid a sincere tribute to Adams, praising his acting, vocal, and dance skills, and describing him as an “absolute joy.”
According to Mr. Rose, “he was one of the warmest gentlemen you could wish to work with.”
He was a true joy, he said. Although Tony was a dancer at the time, there was nothing he couldn’t do.
He performed very well, and he also had some excellent vocal and dance skills.
He enjoyed being a part of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as well as being a part of every company.
We’ll miss him, I promise.
Anthony Sawley Adams was a Welsh actor at the prestigious Italia Conti theatre school after being born Anthony Sawley Adams in Anglesey in 1940.
He gained notoriety in the 1970s soap General Hospital and the Dr. Who television series The Green Death after making a name for himself on stage.
In Crossroads, he was cast as accountant Adam Chance, who would become his most well-known role in 1978.
In 2004, Adams then performed Grandpa Potts on stage at the London Palladium Theatre in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
He made a cameo appearance in Russell T Davies’ three-part drama Nolly, which tells the story of Crossroads actress Noele Gordon, in 2023.
