The star-studded SNL 50th-anniversary concert had everyone buzzing with excitement after last Friday’s successful gig, but Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s dramatic ‘exit’ stole the show. Held at the iconic Radio City Music Hall, the event not only marked half a century of the comedy giant Saturday Night Live, but paid tribute to its musical heritage.
In a moment that turned heads, Tom and his wife Rita ‘stormed out’ of the venue following a tongue-in-cheek reveal by host Jimmy Fallon that no awards would be dished out.
Fallon quipped: “Apparently, there’s been some confusion. This is just a concert. We’re not giving out any awards tonight. So I just want to make sure that everyone knows that.”
As the camera caught Tom and Rita on their staged walkout, Rita even shot a theatrical glare in Fallon’s direction before exiting with Tom hand in hand. Fallon couldn’t help but call out to the seemingly peeved pair: “Tom? Rita? We lost Tom Hanks and Rita. Sorry. It wasn’t their fault.”

But fans were in on the joke; Tom and Rita’s ‘furious exit’ was a scripted spoof, nodding to Tom’s long history with Saturday Night Live since first hosting it back in 1985.
Recently, in Peacock’s documentary series “SNL50: Beyond Saturday Night,” Tom recalled his adventures on the show, calling his experiences ‘the single most exciting thing that has happened in my career’, reports the Mirror US.
He shared with the documentary his profound inspiration from the writer’s room, saying: “The fact that they just put their head down and plowed through it was actually a bit of a life lesson for me. Don’t read the bad reviews because someone out there is just going to hate your guts.”
He went on to express his feelings about the experience: “The cliché of saying it was a dream come true doesn’t do it justice. It’s a fantasy made real.”

Tom has been a familiar face on SNL, featuring in numerous episodes, including a memorable Christmas special sketch last year alongside host Martin Short. Hanks was among a constellation of stars who gathered on Friday night for a grand celebration.
The evening boasted performances from an array of artists such as Backstreet Boys, Cher, Chris Martin, Dave Grohl, Ms. Lauryn Hill, Mumford and Sons, and Snoop Dogg. Also taking the stage were Bad Bunny, Robyn, The B-52s, Wyclef Jean, and Miley Cyrus.
