Prof. Udenta Udenta, the organization’s founding national secretary, charged on Thursday that the Bola Tinubu presidency had weakened democratic principles and used weapons against Nigerians under the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The Tinubu government’s suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State was criticized by Prof. Udenta, a distinguished fellow at the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought.

You are distorting, diluting, and transmogrifying democratic governance in a way and manner that is shutting down democratic conversations, according to the judiciary, the state’s apparatus, and the system that should protect democratic governance.

On Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program, Prof. Udenta remarked, “That is what you find the Bola Tinubu president and his political agents’ legacy.”

The scholar claimed that using democratic tools, including the constitution and the judiciary, to undermine them is not to be done with guns.

Democracy perishes when you disregard the foundational principles of democracy and then begin to use the tools you have entrusted to demolish the structures that control the democratic system.

He claimed that “democracy dies or crumbles not by firing a shot; it is aborting democratic rules by using guardrails like the constitution, as was done in Rivers State.”

Additionally, the scholar charged Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd), the governor of Rivers, with suspending all political appointees in the oil-rich state.

He claimed that the only administrator is “strutting around Port Harcourt, dismantling democratic infrastructure.”

Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the sole administrator of Rivers State, is the Sole Administrator.

A “hybrid regime that is a part of competitive authoritarianism” being used to “manacle the spirit of a nation and abort democratic institutions at all levels,” according to Prof. Udenta, is what is carried out in Rivers State, including labor unions, media houses, political parties, and civil societies.

Prof. Udenta expressed regret over the decline in Nigerians’ quality of life over the past two years. He lamented that the country is plagued by widespread hunger and poverty, with escalating food inflation stealing the average Nigerian’s income.
