Thurles racecourse closes

Inpho

Thurles Racecourse will be shut down immediately.

The County Tipperary venue, the only privately held racecourse in the Republic of Ireland, hosted its first race meeting since 1732.

A statement from the Molony family, which has owned the family for more than a century, stated that “ever-increasing industry demands and the cost of doing business” had been a “major factor” in the decision.

Although those dates are currently awaited until December 31st, Thurles still has 11 notable events on the schedule.

We’re going to enjoy this time together and unwind once the news is out before we decide whether to stay together, according to Riona Molony’s statement.

“We are very grateful to our extended racecourse family, our dedicated staff, generous sponsors, devoted supporters, and the wider racing community for your support,” says our family.
