After becoming seriously ill at his home on the island of Cebu, Thomas Markle, the father of Meghan Markle, was taken to intensive care and had an emergency operation.
Thomas Markle senior’s son has given a key update on his dad’s health.
The former TV lighting director, 81, is now in a “stable” condition but remains in intensive care, Tom Jr said last night. His father was taken to hospital in the Philippines on Tuesday, after he became seriously ill at his home. He had a three-hour operation, from which it is said he is now recovering.
Tom Jr., 59, said last night, “I saw my dad today.” He heavily relies on painkillers and other medications. He has access to a variety of machines. He is essentially out of the picture. He is stable, according to the doctors, which is encouraging. He is a fighter and a brave person.
It is thought the former director of photographer is now set to go through another surgery to take out a blood clot. This comes amid an outpouring of support from people across the world, including in the UK, after social media became saturated with messages of hope.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Tom Jr continued: “The whole family is grateful for the outpouring of love and well-wishes from people around the globe, particularly from Britain. We thank everyone for their support and ask that you keep sending positive thoughts for Dad’s recovery.”
Samantha, 61, Mr. Markle’s other daughter, said, “We are all praying that Dad survives.” He still has a long road to recovery ahead.
However, Thomas Sr and Meghan’s relationship broke down and the pair became estranged in 2018, after Meghan married Prince Harry. The pensioner has been living in a £500-a-month high-rise flat in the island of Cebu, more than 7,000 miles away from Meghan and Harry in Los Angeles. He has never met his grandchildren Archie and Lilibet.
And Tom Jr. claimed that since his father’s hospital admission, the Sussex camp has not heard from them. Meghan and Harry should reach out to Dad, he added. His health issue has not yet been addressed by the Sussexes.
Thomas Sr, who was born in Newport, Pennsylvania, has had two heart attacks and a stroke in recent years but still left the US for the punishing heat of Cebu, part of The Philippines. Temperatures reached 33C in the summer, and humidity levels almost 90%.
