In terms of beauty products with cult classic status, Elemis’ Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm is certainly up there. Arguably one of the first – and best – cleansing balms, it has been a skincare staple for beauty experts for years and a favourite with a number of celebrities, including Molly-Mae Hague and Stacey Solomon. And now Elemis has just dropped a new version – and I think it’s the best yet.

Launching today is the Black Cherry Pro-Collagen Cleaning Balm, £49, the latest fragranced balm to join the original as well as the Rose and Green Fig scents. It’s made of the same formula as the much-loved original – a trio of nourishing oils as well as marine algae, and rose and mimosa waxes – but with a sweet new scent of cherry, almond and vanilla – and I’m obsessed.

I already know and love Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm – it removes even my stubborn eye make-up easily, and it’s one I always come back to – but the other scents have never really wowed me. Nice, sure, but not better than the original, IMO. But the smell of this one is just incredible.

Admittedly, it isn’t the strongest when you first open the lid, but as soon as you scoop some out and massage it between your hands and onto you face, the fragrance is released. And it’s utterly delicious: sweet and juicy yet comforting and grown up, thanks to the vanilla and almond notes. I think it smells like a cross between a posh fizzy cherry sweet and a posh Bakewell tart, and it really does make removing your make-up an enjoyable experience.

The formula performs just as well as the original; it melts onto the skin and breaks down make-up and SPF, before washing away cleanly with a splash of warm water and a flannel. I also then follow with a gel or cream-type formula to thoroughly double cleanse my skin.

I have quite sensitive eyes and this doesn’t irritate them, however if yours are especially easily irritated, I would suggest using the fragrance-free Elemis Pro-Collagen Naked Cleansing Balm, also £49, instead.

The only other shoppers that I would suggest this might not be suitable for are those with very oily or spot-prone skin. Instead I’d recommend removing make-up with a micellar water (you can’t beat Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, currently £6. 69), then following with a gently foaming gel cleanser (I’m currently loving Skin Rocks The Gel Cleanser, £39).

Black cherry is certainly trending in the beauty world at the moment. Glossier has just launched its Black Cherry make-up collection, including a permanent new shade of Balm Dotcom, while Sabrina Carpenter has a Cherry Baby EDP out, currently £34. 99.
