A wedding vow renewal stunt on This Morning to celebrate Valentine’s Day descended into chaos on Friday morning.

The morning show, hosted by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, started off on Friday 14 February with a red double decker bus being driven directly onto the studio floor. Inside the bus were couples who would be renewing their marriage vows later in the show, alongside the two hosts and vicar and journalist Kate Bottley. Dermot and Alison got off the bus to chat to viewers, and then announced it was time for the couples to leave the bus so they could be given special This Morning makeovers before their big day.

However, it appeared that no one had told the couples which way to turn after they stepped off the bus, and the brides and grooms just stood at the foot of the vehicle’s stairs watching while Dermot and Alison spoke to the cameras.

Dermot realised they were lurking behind him, and in the ensuing chaos in the studio, he stepped in to wave them in the right direction like an air traffic marshal on a runway, while Alison tried to hold it together, saying “it’s that way, go round that way darling,” to the first bewildered couple in line.

“I’m so sorry,” Dermot told the couples, as Alison added: “They are going off to get ready for their nuptials, you all look great by the way,” and Dermot tried to hide his laughter behind his hand. “Where are they supposed to go?” he asked his co-host as she laughed and said, “I don’t know! I never got the memo!”

The romance theme continued throughout the Valentine’s Day show. Dermot shared a photo from his wedding to Dee Koppang in 2012, and Alison revealed that a bracelet she was wearing was not from her boyfriend, David Putman, but actually a meaningful gift from Dermot.

Meanwhile, presenter Kate Lawler, on location in Paris to announce a competition, also delivered her own little slice of chaos while in the French capital. Broadcasting live with the iconic Eiffel Tower in the background, Kate waved a sign saying ‘ask me to take your photo’ and dashed around trying to find willing participants.

Most of the couples enjoying the city of love appeared to have their own professional photographers with them, but she eventually found a British couple happy for her to take a snap of them. However, Kate then repeatedly asked the mortified man to get down on one knee to his girlfriend, and the poor bloke refused to do so, making for a rather awkward moment for him, his partner and Kate, as well as the viewers watching the embarrassing scene play out on TV.
