‘The most wonderful human’ – Greenwood leads support for ex-team-mate Moody

Will Greenwood, a former England captain, has backed ex-teammate and fellow rugby world cup winner Lewis Moody with “every ounce of his strength” in the fight against motor neurone disease.

Moody, 47, was first discovered two weeks ago that he has the degenerative, muscle-wasting condition and is struggling to deal with the ramifications of his diagnosis.

Doddie Weir, a legend of rugby league, and Rob Burrow, the legendary player who played for Scotland and the British and Irish Lions, both passed away from the disease three years ago.

Greenwood, who played alongside Moody for both England and Leicester, told BBC Radio 5 Live, “He is the most wonderful human that we love to the very core.”

“He is one of the great guys, so it’s tragic news.” You support the good guys, but I’m also aware that there is no order to this stuff, such as how you leave this planet.

He has the ability to turn a switch and be the most vicious competitor, and he has not a bad bone in his body, the most optimistic person you can hope to find.

Moody, who won 71 England caps and three for the British and Irish Lions, “embodies the very best of rugby’s values,” according to executive director Bill Sweeney.
