According to the royal palace, Thailand’s former queen Sirikit, the mother of the country’s current Thai King Maha Vajiralongkorn and the wife of the country’s long-reigning monarch Bhumibol Adulyadej, has passed away.
The palace announced in a statement on Saturday that “Her Majesty’s condition continued to worsen until Friday and she passed away at Chulalongkorn Hospital at 9:21pm.”

King Bhumibol, who had ruled for seven decades, passed away in 2016 with his wife.
Since October 17, Sirikit has been dealing with a blood infection despite having numerous ailments and having hardly ever appeared in public. Despite the efforts of her medical team, reports claim that her condition did not improve.
Following Sirikit’s passing, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul canceled his trip to the ASEAN leaders’ summit, which was scheduled to take place in Malaysia on Sunday from Sunday. A government spokesman Siripong Angkasakulkiat said on Saturday that Sirikit’s death had prevented him from attending.
The royal family is revered in Thailand, revered by many as semi-divine figures, and lavished with gold-plated portraits and glowing media coverage that hang in public and private residences all over the country.
Following King Bhumibol’s death, there were intense public outcries and a year-long period of official mourning, with many Thais opting to wear black the entire time.

In Thailand, her birthday on August 12 is referred to as Mother’s Day, and her portrait is still frequently displayed alongside King Bhumidol in homes, restaurants, and offices.
