Since I’ve been a Taylor Swift fan since Fearless first came out in 2008, the singer’s music has infused every emotion into my life. But what will happen when she tells Travis Kelce about her engagement?
Taylor Swift would be the first song I recall really listening to and feeling every emotion she conveys. I was 15 years old when I started listening to You Belong With Me like I had a chance to compete with the famous student.
My rollercoaster of teenage emotions led me through unrequited love (Hey Stephen) and thinking I was in love (Fifteen), which I totally wasn’t, but when someone tells you they love you at the age of fifteen, and you know the rest, and I still relate to the heartbreak of not being the one he even looked at.
As the years progressed, Taylor’s ability to effortlessly capture every sensation I was feeling at the time. 2010 and the release of Speak Now, both with highs and lows (I just wanted to point out that I didn’t crash a wedding)!
I’d probably be right that heartache finds me, but I’ve always been a fan of music because it helps me get through the tougher times. The struggles, the breakups, and the times when you believe no one is listening. Music does.
I adored Taylor’s Lover album, including Paper Rings, Daylight, and of course the song’s title, Lover, but none of them spoke to me as strongly as Red and 1989 did.
I was relieved to learn that Taylor had engaged Travis Kelce, but a selfish part of me wondered if I would never experience the same feelings as a teenager when she sang “in love” and learned that she had been in love with him.
Taylor is so desperately hoping (like most people will be) that she can turn the clock back and still have those emotional and fiery (reputation) moments. She has an effortless way of capturing those emotions and relating to her fans. songs that have resonated with so many people over the years.
From the teenage girl who cried in her bedroom over the famous boy’s inability to leave (think Teardrops on My Guitar) to the young woman who realized she had to leave just in time (think I Bet You Think About Me), to the Eras Tour version of me who screamed “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived” alongside 90, 000 other people at Wembley Stadium last year… We might never hear new heartbreaking songs that can express exactly how I feel, but I’m sad.
However, I can’t help but be happy that the English teacher and gym instructor finally have a true Swiftie.
