As Tamzin Outhwaite reveals her thoughts on dating apps as she tries to find love, there might be one major flaw in her approach to online dating.
Tamzin Outhwaite has revealed that she has a dating app on her phone and is swiping for love. The 54-year-old soap icon, who separated from boyfriend Tom Child, a toyboy fitness instructor, has been dating since last year.
The actor, who has a reputation for playing Mel Owen on the BBC show from 1998 to 2019, was previously married to Miranda actress Tom Ellis, 46, from 2006 to 2014. The couple’s divorce came about as a result of his explosive claims that he had cheated, which led to the breakup of the relationship.
He married Meaghan Oppenheimer in 2023, and he has an older daughter from a previous relationship, despite having two daughters together. Tamzin and Tom Child first met at a yoga class in 2017, and they started dating in the summer of 2024.
The former couple are said to still be friends even though the relationship is over because Tom Child is 20 years younger than the soap actress. However, Tamzin has now revealed that she is ready to fall in love following her 2024 breakup.
And she has admitted she has turned to technology to try and find love via the algorithm and through swiping right – and left. But she also confessed she forgets she is signed up to the dating app – so some men may be waiting to match.
Opening up to The Sun, she said: “I’m single, I’ve tried the dating apps. I’m on one now but I keep forgetting to check it. I just can’t imagine actually going on the date and going back to the small talk. It will happen one day but I’m certainly not waiting for it.”
She continued, “I’ve been single for over a year, and I’m loving it too much.” Because I haven’t been single in a while, I owe it to myself.
She continued, “I’ve always been in relationships. Being alone is really nice, and I really like it.
After splitting from Tom Child last year and spending seven happy years together, Tamzin revealed her close friendship with him last month. He’s still one of my best friends, she said to Hello Magazine, and I adore him. However, I had to say, “I don’t want to share a bed.” I’m at a point where I need to be independent.
And last year, Tamzin opened up to the Mirror about her single status, having then recently broken up with the fitness hunk. She said: “I’m happy single. There’s a lot on! Life is really busy, throwing a relationship into that is a whole other thing.
“Freedom fills up my cup, freedom to do as you please is a lovely thing. That makes me happy.” Tamzin, who took part in the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special last year, said she is on a quest to challenge herself, build on things that make her happy and “fill up my own cup”
She was paired with Nikita Kuzmin for the Christmas Special – and shared that some of her friends tried to warn her off taking part in the cursed show.
She stated that while some people have said, “Oh, you should do it,” and others have said, “Sure, don’t,” these aren’t people who have done it!
“These are my acting friends, and I’m like, “Why?” Don’t do it; it’s going to be nightmares; in reality, this is just a taster for me. It kind of makes me believe that it won’t have to be a nightmare. My body might be able to support me.
She said at the time, “In my head, I think I look like Nadiya (Bychkova),” while sharing her joy for dancing. Then I look in the mirror and say, “Oh dear,” I get caught up in it. I try to be graceful, but that’s not what I’m used to, and it seems and feels really beautiful in my head.
