Iga Swiatek, the second-ranked player, defeated Linda Noskova to reach the last 16. She won the Madrid Open eight times in a row.

The defending champion and 2023 finalist, who is still chasing her first title of the year, defeated her Czech opponent, who famously won the 2024 Australian Open, 6-4, 6-2.

In the previous round of competition in Spain, the 23-year-old from Poland had to compete against Philippines teenager Alexandra Eala.

However, she appeared to be speaking French more frequently as she passed the test in one hour and 17 minutes.

Her next match will be against Russian Diana Shnaider, who won’t have a single game against Latvian Anastasija Sevastova.

Madison Keys and Coco Gauff, both from America, both won straight sets to advance to the last 16.
