Vitor Matos has been given a four-year contract by Swansea City.

The former Liverpool elite development coach only started his senior management position at Maritimo in June when he left the Portuguese second-tier club.

The Championship strugglers turned to Matos after Swansea fired Alan Sheehan earlier this month and after missing out on Kim Hellberg, who had traveled to Middlesbrough, to sign him.

The 37-year-old was present at Ashton Gate on Saturday to watch the Swans’ 3-0 defeat to Bristol City, which places them 20th in the table.

Victor has worked with some of the best coaches in the modern game for more than ten years and has become a trusted advisor to elite clubs.

Fans will enjoy watching his Swansea City team play in action, and he is committed to playing an attacking style of football and developing players both technically and tactically.

Following Matos’ appointment, Swansea’s former assistant coach Darren O’Dea, who was in charge for a while last weekend, along with fellow coach Richard Stearman, will step down.

The club stated in a statement that they are collaborating with Matos to find a “backroom staff that provides the support and expertise that gives him the best chance of succeeding.”

Leon Britton, a legend at the club, will soon be joining the coaching staff, and Joe Allen will also be there to help with the transition.
