Plans to unveil Sven-Goran Erikisson’s memorial sculpture in Sweden next week have been postponed due to sickness. The football manager’s bronze statue ceremony will be held on Valentine’s Day, one of his favorite days of the year, in 2025.

Next week, Sven’s family and friends were scheduled to pay tribute to the soccer boss, who passed away in August from cancer at the age of 76, in Torsby, Torsby. A lifesize sculpture of Sven, created by Swedish artist Hanna Beling, was due to be unveiled. She had put in a lot of effort into the piece. The event has since been postponed until next year, though. Some of the people who had planned to attend the ceremony appear to have fallen ill and been unable to attend. Hanna said: “The unveiling has been changed to February 14 next year. There has been sickness in Torsby”.

Sven was a huge fan of Valentine’s Day. He also used to give flowers to his partners, including Nancy Dell Olio and Ulrika Jonsson. However, he also used to distribute red roses to the players in the teams he was overseeing that day. Only a handful of people have seen Hanna’s statue.

It depicts former England manager Sven, who appeared to be in his 40s, with his hand raised in the air as though he were waving to a player. Although the 80-kilo sculpture is hollow, a special element will be housed inside to make the body feel warm to the touch.

In June, Hanna and Sven met up in Torsby and took his measurements for the piece of art. Before he passed away, he had a glimpse of how it would look. Hanna said: “I measured his head, hands, legs, shoulders and also his nose and his lips. Then I looked up documentaries about his time spending Lazio and Italy.

I created the sculpture of him when he was between the ages of 45 and 50, which is why. He had a very happy life that year. The middle age. He believed that age was appropriate. He was enthusiastic about the sculpture but modest about the project. Only a select few have witnessed it. We agreed to keep it until it is finished, before showing it in Torsby, according to Sven’s children.

Hanna would love to take it on a Euro tour once it is unveiled so Sven’s fans can see it up close. She continued, “I want to show the sculpture to Italy and England as well.” Because he was so adored there, I would be interested to see it there. Svennis will be seated next to him, and fans will be able to rest their hands on his shoulder because the statue will be warm.

He should be waving, according to the combined idea. The sculpture is somewhat moved by it. It resembles him very much, in my opinion. I did my best”.
