Lara Gut-Behrami, the reigning super-G champion, will miss the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy because of a knee injury that has ended her season.

The 34-year-old will undergo surgery after colliding with a trainer in Copper Mountain, Colorado, according to Swiss Ski.

In her left knee, she tore a medial ligament, a meniscus, and ruptured a cruciate ligament.

After the 2025-26 season, Gut-Behrami, who has won 48 World Cup victories in three different disciplines, intended to retire.

“Our sport has recently experienced dramatic events where young athletes died in tragic accidents.

I don’t think a knee injury, however complicated it may be, should be viewed as tragic.

The Milano Cortina Games will take place on February 6 through February 22.
