NFL 2025 season
Dates: 4 September 2025 – 8 February 2026
The Buffalo Bills extended their winning streak to three games with a 31-21 victory over the Miami Dolphins on Thursday.
Up until Matt Prater’s late field goal, Buffalo have dominated their divisional rivals in recent years, but they have never had a lead over seven points.
Miami tied the game at 21-21 early in the fourth quarter with a touchdown pass from Tyreek Hill, but Khalil Shakir restored the lead with a third touchdown run.
With three minutes left, Miami looked like it was on fire as they drove to Buffalo’s 21-yard line.
For the Dolphins’ only turnover, Terrel Bernard, a Bills linebacker, intercepted a Tua Tagovailoa pass in front of Jaylen Waddle.
With 22 seconds left, the hosts then placed more pressure on Miami’s head coach Mike McDaniel as they advanced within the reach of Prater’s goal to win.
The Dolphins have started the season with a 3-0 record for the first time since 2019 while the Bills currently have a 3-0 record.
In each of their previous five seasons, Buffalo has won the AFC East division title, and they have also lost 13 of their previous 14 regular-season games against Miami.
Before Buffalo tight end Dalton Kincaid forced the ball in after collecting an Allen pass, rookie running back Ollie Gordon II made a shovel pass to Jackson Hawes for the rookie tight end to score.
When Tagovailoa completed the first of his two touchdown passes to Waddle for Miami, the team set a new record with seven regular-season games with a rushing touchdown.
After Tagovailoa penalized Zach Sieler for roughing the punter, the Bills received a second set of downs before giving them a reprieve after they gave him a chance to get back in the end zone.
Five plays later, Shakir received his 200th career regular-season touchdown pass from Allen, before Bernard’s interception, which resulted in Prater getting the win with a 48-yard kick.
Coach Sean McDermott said, “I thought the grit and mental toughness of our football team were on display throughout the game, especially in the fourth quarter there.”
