As the newly promoted side look to keep on a spending spree, Sunderland are considering whether to sign Leicester winger Abdul Fatawu.
One of the Foxes’ most valuable assets, the 21-year-old Ghana international, is said to be worth about £30 million.
Due to concerns that a move may be too expensive or difficult to complete, the Black Cats have engaged in preliminary discussions to formalize their interest.
Sunderland have already spent £141.5 million in the transfer window, which is a British record for a promoted club, compared to Nottingham Forest’s £142 million in the summer of 2022.
Nordi Mukiele, a former Arsenal player, Simon Adingra from Brighton, and Habib Diarra, a club record signing, cost them about £30 million, according to their most recent signings.
First on loan, Fatawu helped Leicester win the Championship title in 2024 when he joined Sporting Lisbon.
After Leicester had the option to buy him, he made a permanent move before their return to the top flight, but he missed the majority of the 2024-25 season with a serious knee injury.
