Strictly Come Dancing is renowned for pro dancer-celeb relationships and one contestant is banking on it to fuel her love life
RuPaul’s Drag Race star La Voix is ready to dance her way to the glitterball trophy on Strictly Come Dancing this year, but has revealed that she has another reason for joining the show.
At a press event for the launch show, the drag icon was asked about the infamous Strictly curse, which refers to those on the show who end their current relationship after finding romance with another contestant or pro dancer. Her response was both defiant and cheeky.
“I say bring it on,” she declared. “I’m single. Absolutely.” La Voix added that she’s “living the dream” with her Strictly experience. Following on from Tayce, who danced with Kai Widdrington in last year’s Christmas special, La Voix is the second drag queen to compete on the show and the first to take part in a full series. Tayce won her episode so the bar is high for La Voix.

But, the 45-year-old doesn’t seem to be feeling the pressure and is instead “glad” to be on the show and represent the drag community.
“I think the want for it for many, many years has been there,” she continued to tell Metro. “I mean, it’s the campest, glittery show, the whole thing goes hand in hand.
“There’s no reason why it shouldn’t be, and I’m just glad to bring good entertainment to that show.
She added that Strictly was the ideal spot to feature a drag icon and highlighted that it’s nothing new. “There’s no deeper message. There’s no ulterior motive. It’s just prime time TV. I think we’re used to Dame Edna and Lily Savage for all those years. Let’s bring that back to TV.”
The star also joked about another thing that Strictly is known for. Every year, inevitably, someone will make a joke about the sequins and spray tans, everything that goes into a classic ‘Strictly makeover’.
But for La Voix, sequins, big make-up and gorgeous wigs are a part of the everyday. She joked she might be “the only one that dresses down on the live show”.
However, fans needn’t worry this means La Voix will be any less glamourous. She has seen her dress for the first live show and promised fans that it would live up to expectations. “I want the full Strictly experience. They’re going to take it to the next level. They already have.
“The glamour is wonderful. I feel like I’m living my dream. It’s amazing. I don’t want to do the dancing bit, just the dressing up bit.”
