Stefan Dennis, the star of Strictly Come Dancing, is best known for playing the ruthless Neighbours villain Paul Robinson, but he will debut this weekend to show viewers a different side.
Stefan Dennis, the cold-blooded businessman Paul Robinson in Neighbours, is well-known to many as the Strictly Come Dancing star.
Stefan joined the cast on its very first episode, which aired in 1985, and became well-known as his villainous character Paul. But, Stefan is set to show Strictly Come Dancing fans his more sparkly side as he takes to the BBC Saturday night staple’s dance floor.
Although much is known about Stefan’s acting and soap character, he prefers to keep some details about himself a secret because he just revealed that he has kept his age a secret.
According to Google, the soap star is 66, but Stefan recently remained coy about how old he was in a recent interview. Stefan refused to spill how old he was when he first joined Neighbours and said: “That’s gonna give my age away if I tell you,” according to The Guardian.
However, Stefan has been open about some aspects of his life. We take a look at this here.
Tragic in a family
Stefan’s older brother John was killed by a drunk driver when Stefan was younger.
Speaking on the Jeremy Vine Show previously, Stefan revealed how the drunk driver was fined just $200 AUD (roughly £95 in today’s money) over the incident.
When asked how the tragedy affected him, he responded that “what people don’t realize is, yes, it’s all very well to talk about drink-drivers and “oh don’t do it” and other things, but the repercussions of someone’s actions by driving while using drugs or alcohol, or any impairment to your driving, are devastating to the people involved.”
It doesn’t bother them anymore because they’ve killed them, but it does affect them for the rest of their lives because of it. For me, this happened decades and decades ago, but it continues to affect me. Because I was a young child at the time, I’m actually more affected today than I was then.
Celebrity romances
Stefan and other celebrities have had a number of romantic relationships. From 1979 until 1989, he first wed Roz Roy, the host of The Price Is Right.
He recently described the bizarre world of a public eye romance, telling The Guardian, “I was doing Flying Doctors…
“And there was my wife on the cover of the magazine, my first wife,” I’m reading it in the green room.
And I said, “That’s my wife! ” and turned around. “
The soap actor dated his co-star Gayle Blakeney, who played Christina Alessi, while he was on Neighbours. Additionally, he recently confessed to a secret romance with actress Beth Brennan from Torn, Natalie Imbruglia.
Stefan explained to Stellar magazine, “I was dating Natlalie Imbruglia because of my relationships with Gayle and later, in a well-kept secret.
“I was told that I was going to make it through the female cast,” he rumored.
However, he married Gail Easdale in 2000 and they are now happily married. Gail assumed the role of Julie Quill in the series Neighbours, which the two played business rivals. However, they didn’t mean to be on the soap; instead, Stefan and Gail first met while performing in a pantomime in London, but they didn’t get married for several years because Gayle Blakeney, an actor who played his second wife Christina on Neighbours, had a relationship.
Stefan previously confessed to Herald Sun: “I told Gail that I was attracted to her, but nothing could happen because I was still in a relationship, so we became the best of friends instead. We were inseparable.”
Cameron, Declan, and Darci are their three children.
Neighbors’ hidden sacking
In 1992, Stefan eluded Neighbours and traveled to the United Kingdom to take on acting responsibilities. However, his time away from the soap wasn’t all that long because he re-joined in 2004.
However, Stefan was fired by soap bosses in 2006 after two years and a number of bizarre storylines, including several marriages, affairs, and scams.
He recalled to The Guardian, “They said we have to fire you because you did your job so well.” ‘ Wait, what? ‘ They said, “You’ve always made it work, no matter what we’ve thrown at you, even though some of the things have been quite ridiculous and over the top.” Our fault lies with you, not with you. The actor is too big for what we’re trying to do, and the character has almost become a caricature.
However, Stefan returned to the production company after receiving his marching orders and declared, “I’m an actor. He recalled that it is my responsibility to get things to work.
And two days later, soap executives decided to make Paul an amputee rather than replace his character.
He claimed on Australian TV Tonight that, despite the best intentions of many people, the producers had no idea what to do with the character anymore because they had made him too big.
They actually sacked me for about three days before changing their minds and hiring me back.
When the show ended (2022), I was then fired once more and am currently being fired once more.
This means that I’ve actually left the show five times. However, this show has actually been axed three more times, which adds to its history.
“It’s the only show in the world, as an ongoing serial, that’s been axed three times.”
Neighbours came to a dramatic conclusion in 2022 when Channel 5 cut its funding, but Amazon’s streaming service Freevee brought it back after a heartfelt farewell saw many characters return for the final episode. However, the soap was once more discontinued and will end in December of this year.
