After falling for a scam where he believed he had received an exciting email from American podcaster Mel Robbins, Strictly star Ore Oduba said he is “ashamed,” “embarrassed,” and “human.”
Ore Oduba, the star of Strictly Come Dancing, was left to cry after falling for a scam. The presenter claimed to have fallen for a sophisticated online scam that he believed to have received a message from Mel Robbins, an American podcaster.
Mel Robbins is the writer of transformational books, including The 5 Second Rule, The High 5 Habit, and The Let Them Theory. The TV star explained how the scammers impersonated the globally renowned author, speaker, and podcast host after he had appeared on Loose Women and claimed her philosophy ‘changed his life’.
Speaking to his Instagram followers, he explained: “I reposted that interview, I tagged the Mel Robbins podcast, tagged the Let Me theory, tagged Mel, tagged everybody who cared, and then I got an email from my agent who forwarded on an email from the team at the Mel Robbins podcast.”
He said, “I could have cried, they knew who I was!” when describing his initial feelings. The Mel Robbins podcast team sent me an email. I kept everything to myself. how she had altered my life. And I figuratively stated at the end of the email that being who I am is everything. Thank you so much for reaching out.
Unfortunately, the email later turned out to be a scam, and Ore claimed he was “ashamed” and “embarrassed” of having fallen for the con. The TV star explained to the audience how excited he seemed at first sight and how ironic that he had once hosted a show about scammers called Claimed And Shamed.
He claimed in the video, “I’m reading this back and I know how it made me feel at the time. I responded with “Mel, I’m holding back tears,” and I wrote back. Is this true, really? You must have AI assisting you in getting to know all of these fans, Mel said in response, “Of course it’s me, it’s Mel Robbins.”
Ore continued, “I never thought that he would be someone who would be defrauded,” and that he was fortunate to have discovered the scam before being conned out of giving any money.
He captioned the entire article, “I’m ashamed, I’m embarrassed, and I’m human.” I didn’t expect to be defrauded, but this shows it can happen to anyone. particularly with AI’s assistance and manipulation. How quickly I became “hooked” is terrifying. It’s so frightening, and it was SO convincing.
The TV star urged viewers to “hear their gut,” ignoring what they believed to be true.
He continued, “I’ve made no secret of how much Mel Robbins, her book, and podcast have aided me through a very difficult period. Truth is, I completely ignored something I had so long wanted to believe and nearly caused myself trouble (sidenote). When I made this video, I realized how frequently we do the same thing in relationships as well.
It’s most likely telling you the truth, so listen to your gut. Don’t be defrauded; it’s not fun. I’m still deeply moved by and adore Mel Robbins, and I’m so appreciative of their prompt response. It was too late for me, which is unfortunate.
