States Now Mandate Drug Tests For Appointees, Employees — NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), according to its report, has made some progress in its fight against the use of narcotics, particularly with sub-national assistance.

According to Femi Babafemi, the organization’s spokesman, some state governments have supported the NDLEA’s campaign to require drug testing for employees and appointees.

On Monday’s morning program on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Babafemi made the announcement.

He said, “It’s an advocacy move and that has been going on since 2021. Numerous state governments have already adopted this requirement to ensure that anyone seeking an elective position or being appointed to the state government undergoes drug testing. That is occurring.

” Like I said, it’s an advocacy move. We can only help to persuade the various stakeholders to support this because it is not a law.

He claimed that some politicians have been charged with illegally supplying hard drugs.

” In the last four years, from our record, about 65 barons including former public office holders had been arrested, prosecuted and convicted without mentioning anybody’s name to stigmatise them. “

Babafemi claimed that some of the people detained and prosecuted by the Buba Marwa-led organization held offices and might hold positions in the local government chairmanship. We still have a significant number of famous people facing charges right now, even as I speak.

Additionally, the NDLEA spokesman added that employers and tertiary institutions have started using drug tests as part of their hiring process in addition to political positions.

Babafemi stated, “This is happening at the level of our young people – those entering tertiary institutions – to ensure that they also undergo this test. This is going on not only at the level of politics or those seeking employment.

“We are glad that indeed this is going on around the country, in institutions – we have seen these institutions, both private and public make that a policy. All of this is intended to lower young people’s desire for illicit substances.
