Edgbaston’s Hundred women’s competition

London Spirit 164-6 (100 balls): Chathli 69 (35), Arlott 3-25

Phoenix in Birmingham 76-9 (79 balls): Lamb 23 (13), Gray 2-13

London Spirit defeated London Spirit 88 runs to win.

Phoenix in Birmingham lost to London Spirit in the most runs in The Hundred women’s competition’s history by 88 runs, which was their biggest defeat.

As Spirit posted a score of 164-6, opener Kira Chathli hit 69 from 35 balls, while Grace Harris, who was hit hard, made 34 from 15.

With only Emma Lamb (23) passing 10, Phoenix’s chase ended up being bowled out for 76 with 21 balls left.

After winning the toss, Spirit captain Charlie Dean decided to bat, but her team lost Cordelia Griffith and Georgia Redmayne for nought and nine, respectively, leading to a score of 25-2 on the powerplay.

Chathli steadied the ship by striking 13 fours and putting on a 47-point partnership with Harris.

She was caught attacking Ellyse Perry while Harris took the third victim, Em Arlott, with 3 to 25; Spirit came out on top 164-6.

Georgia Voll, the opener for Phoenix, was taken off Issy Wong’s feet in the tenth ball of the innings when Chathli caught her off Issy Wong. Six batters were then dismissed for single innings before losing regular wickets.

With debutant Phoebe Brett out with a thumb injury that completed a comprehensive Spirit victory, Megan Schutt and Hannah Baker were dismissed from successive balls to make it 76-9 Phoenix.

Superchargers have a shot at winning in the loss of the originals.

Old Trafford’s Hundred women’s competition, and Old Trafford

Manchester Originals 117-5 (100 balls): Dottin 51* (26), Cross 2-21

Nothern Superchargers 112-7 (100 balls): Litchfield 31 (27), Kerr 2-20

By five runs, the Manchester Originals won.

Northern Superchargers were unable to regain the top spot with a five-run defeat at Old Trafford by Manchester Originals.

After putting in 64 for the second wicket, the visiting side had hoped to win, scoring 118.

However, Melie Kerr’s dismissal of Litchfield set off a run-inducing spell that saw Superchargers lose four wickets for 17 runs and see their chase stall.

As Superchargers fell short, Sophie Ecclestone, who needed 14 from the final 10 balls, had superb catch of Bess Heath from Deandra Dottin, and Lauren Filer, who removed Kate Cross.

After Superchargers decided to bowl, Cross had already put her side on a strong note, dismissing both of the originals openers for single-figures.

The former Originals seamer bowled Captain Beth Mooney, and Kathryn Bryce was caught behind.

Dottin hammered 51 from 26 to finish the Originals at 117-5 after only 58-4 from 64 balls.
