Samsung launched its latest generation of foldable phones, including the much-anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 7, on 9 July. This mobile has been touted as a significantly slimmer design than its predecessor, the Z Fold 6 from 2024. However, one of Samsung’s Android rivals has already grabbed the limelight with the launch of what it claims to be the world’s thinnest foldable phone.

Honor has unveiled the Honor Magic V5, a book-style folding phone that the company boasts is the slimmest foldable device worldwide. Right now, thanks to this limited-time offer, shoppers can reduce the price tag by £300 by using this discount code: AV5UK300.

Plus, shoppers who sign up to TopCashBack can claim a further £137.50 discount. All you have to do is sign up using this unique link and save £437.75 in total.

This device’s top stats don’t stop there. Honor also revealed that this phone completed reading the world’s longest book, Marcel Proust’s epic work ‘In Search of Lost Time’ on the V5 – 4300 pages—on a single charge, equating to 30 hours with 10% of the battery still remaining.

The new Magic V5 measures just 8.8mm thick when folded, beating the Oppo Find N5 by a mere 0.1mm. While this difference might seem negligible, the Magic V5’s slimness is quite noticeable compared to the 12.1mm thickness of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6, which measures 5.6mm at its thinnest point when unfolded.

The V5 is a slender 4.1mm. However, according to The Verge, only the white Magic V5 model boasts this thinness. The other colour variants measure 9mm thick when folded due to their different fibre and vegan leather finishes.

Despite all the buzz about its sleek design, it’s hard to overlook the V5’s substantial camera bump on the back, as shown in the image above. Foldable phones have come a long way since the first Galaxy Fold was launched in 2019, with Android manufacturers now competing for the slimmest designs to showcase their premium devices.

The V5 boasts superior specs compared to the V3, which I previously reviewed and labelled as the best book-style foldable phone. The V5 is fitted with the latest and most powerful Qualcomm chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite, along with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

Its interior screen features a 7.95-inch folding OLED with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and peak brightness of 5,000 nits. If the outer screen is anything like the V3’s, it could be the phone’s secret weapon, offering the dimensions of a standard phone and ensuring no compromise when the device is closed. This contrasts with the Z Fold 6’s outer screen, which is narrower than that of a regular phone.

Additionally, the V5’s prominent camera bump houses a 50MP main camera, a 64MP periscope telephoto lens, and a 50MP ultra-wide lens. Honor continues to feature dual 20MP selfie cameras on the outer screen. With a 5,820mAh battery, the Honor Magic V5 is expected to offer outstanding battery life. Additionally, with IP58/IP59 dust and water resistance, it’s one of the most durable folding phones on the market, capable of surviving accidental dips in water.
