A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake that erupted on Friday in Bangkok and neighboring Myanmar caused a high-rise building to collapse.
At least 43 workers are trapped beneath the rubble, according to the Thai Prime Minister, who has declared a state of emergency in the city.
Another report claimed that over 300 people were reported to have been hurt, and 20 were trapped in the lift, and that 70 workers were missing, but it’s not yet known how many of those died.
In Myanmar, it is reported that the quake caused a bridge to collapse as well.
Some squatted in pain while relatives sought comfort in lying still.
Both nations are flooded with people because of the tremors.
Duangjai, a resident of Chiang Mai, a well-known tourist destination in northern Thailand, told AFP, “I heard it and I was sleeping in the house, I ran as far as I could in my pyjamas out of the building.”
When the shop started the shake, Sai, a 76-year-old Chiang Mai resident, was employed by a minimart.
He said, “I quickly rushed out of the store along with other customers.”
