Three people are still missing after a boat capsized in Garin Faji, Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing six people.

As residents attempted to flee an attack by suspected bandits in the early hours of Thursday, a tragedy struck. Another 19 people were saved.

According to witnesses, panic erupted when armed men were spotted advance, forcing nearby bushes-hiding residents to flee into a canoe that later capsized midstream.

The lawmaker who represents Sabon Birni in the Aminu Boza, the Sokoto State Assembly, lamented that many communities have been forced to relocate due to insecurity.

Over 20 people still missing as NEMA wraps up its search and rescue operation.

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing for the missing, according to the Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency, which also confirmed the deaths. Since then, representatives from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), and the Red Cross have formally inspected the community.

Residents of the area say more presence is required as banditry continues to encircle entire communities, despite the fact that security operatives recently foiled yet another attack.

This is the second incident of this nature to occur in less than a week. In a similar accident that occurred in the Goronyo Local Government Area just six days ago, four people died.

In response to a boat accident in Sokoto, NEMA reported that ten people had been saved. NEMA is credited.

NEMA announced last week that three bodies had been found in the Sokoto State boat accident.

There were 25 people who had been rescued, according to the report, out of the boat’s over 50 passengers.

The organization, however, announced that the search and rescue operation was over.

Aliyu Kafindangi, the NEMA’s Sokoto Operation Office head, made this known on Wednesday.

“For the past three days, we have been on a rescue mission after a boat carrying farmers, market men, and women capsized.
