Johnny Rotten, a punk rock star, has revealed he wants to date Taylor Swift despite the Swift fans’ harsh criticism of the “incredibly dull” singer.
Sex Pistols icon Johnny Rotten has shocked fans by revealing he wants to duet with none other than pop megastar Taylor Swift – just months after branding her “incredibly dull”.
The punk legend, now performing under his real name John Lydon, admitted to The Mirror that despite once dismissing Taylor’s music as “swishy ballroom-gown” pop destined for Vegas, he now appreciates her success and wouldn’t mind teaming up.
“Those that make that kind of music, like Taylor, do it very well,” John, 69, said. She ought to confront me aggressively. Imagine the “duet” being played. Fans who recall his most recent criticisms have been enthralled by the reversal. However, it’s not his first mute that he’s been looking for.

He recalled once writing a bizarre song about freeing parrots from the Amazon while attempting to write a duet with Kate Bush. She said, “I can’t sing that. F*** off. ‘ He laughed, noting that it was not her exact words.
John is about to begin a 40-date tour titled This Is Not The Last Tour, which will begin in Bristol in May, after fronting Public Image Ltd (PiL) since the Sex Pistols disbanded. His first significant return to the road came after his 44-year wife, Nora Forster, passed away in 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Throughout her illness, John was her devoted carer at their Malibu home, finding strength in the memory of his own childhood struggle with meningitis, which left him with temporary amnesia at age seven.
He said, “I could look back and think, Wow, that served a purpose.” Nora’s memory would come back on her own, and I fully grasped how crucial that was.
John’s grief was made even worse by John’s best friend and manager, John “Rambo” Stevens, who passed away suddenly just months later. Despite the heartache, John has managed to maintain both his wit and sense of the absurd.
What was my favorite purchase for Nora? a Japanese toilet that used a bidet to spray hot water. She adored it. He deadpanted, “I’ve got hemorrhoids from it now.”
Hawaii, which was submitted for Ireland’s 2024 Eurovision bid, was also inspired by his love for Nora. Although it didn’t make the cut, John bravely performed it live on The Late Late Show before giving in during the broadcast. It’s too painful, I’m not sure if I’ll ever do it again.
John is now finding solace in painting a portrait of him and Nora that he admits he may never complete. “I may be Johnny Rotten to some people, but I’m actually John Lydon, a much more loving person.”
Despite his raw vulnerability, he hasn’t lost his bite. He’s taken swipes at Lady Gaga, the Rolling Stones, and even his former Pistols bandmates, who recently reformed without him, enlisting Frank Carter as their new frontman. John dismissed their reunion gigs as “karaoke”.
Yet he remains philosophical about his journey – from punk rebel banned by the BBC for God Save The Queen, to a widower with citizenship in the UK, US, and Ireland. He jokes about having to be “sponsored” by his Indian accountant to prove his Britishness when renewing his passport, a twist of irony not lost on the man who once spat fury at the establishment.
Should I be buried somewhere? Is that where I belong? I’ve lost two of the people I once loved, and I’m now the audience. It’s my definition of “family values.”
Regarding that Swift duet? There have been more dangerous things. Who would have imagined that the most well-known anti-hero of punk would end up praising parrot rescue missions, designer toilets, and singing with America’s sweetheart in a dream?
