Scott McTominay, a former Manchester United midfielder, has received a nomination for the 2025 men’s Ballon d’Or.
One of the 30 candidates for the prize was the Napoli and Scotland player, and the winner will be announced on September 22.
McTominay’s nomination comes less than a year after he was allowed to leave Manchester United for Napoli in a £25 million move.
With his nomination, McTominay becomes the first Scot shortlisted since 1987’s Ally McCoist, a former Rangers striker.
McTominay, 28, won the Serie A player of the year award 12 times in 34 league games.
After Hansi Flick’s side won La Liga last term, Barcelona’s 18-year-old Lamine Yamal and Brazilian team-mate Raphinha are the two strongest adversaries.
Rodri, the current recipient of the award, misses out after missing the majority of last season with a knee injury, but team-mate Erling Haaland is up for the honor.
Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, and Mohamed Salah are among the nominees for the Arsenal duo, respectively, and Viktor Gyokeres and Viktor Rice and Viktor Gyokeres for the Liverpool team.
