After Princess Beatrice welcomed her second child, proud grandma Fergie made fun of her 5-a-side team of grandchildren.
It was announced today that Beatrice, 36 and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 40, have welcomed a baby girl called Athena. She arrived several weeks early, and is a little sister for the couple’s three-year-old daughter Sienna, and Edoardo’s son, eight-year-old Wolfie. Athena is Fergie and Prince Andrew’s fourth grandchild and joins Wolfie, Edo’s son.
Once the happy news was confirmed, joyful Sarah shared a sweet post on Instagram in celebration. She added, “Overflowing with love and joy to be able to welcome Athena Elizabeth Rose into the world,” along with a photo of the infant. She is already incredibly beloved, and I’m incredibly lucky to have her again. So proud of Edo, Beatrice and the rest of my little 5-a-side team”!
Sarah wasn’t the only one to share a touching message. New dad Edoardo posted a tribute to his second daughter, calling her “tiny and absolutely perfect”. He shared a photograph of Athena wrapped in a blanket, and wrote: “Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi. Last week, we gave birth to Athena. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are already completely drawn to her, even Wolfie and Siena. Our hearts are overflowing with love for you, baby Athena.
“To the entire wonderful staff at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, thank you very much, and I thank you very much for your outstanding care and support during this incredibly special time.”
Eugenie, Beatrice’s sister, shared the photo of baby Athena wrapped in a pink blanket on her Instagram Stories and posted: “Welcome Baby Girl.”
A statement from Buckingham Palace, meanwhile, read:” Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, born on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12.57pm, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London.
The baby was delivered with four pounds and five ounces. The King, Queen, and other royal family members have all been informed and are delighted to hear the news.
Athena, who will not be an HRH, is born 11th in line to the throne, with Beatrice’s younger sister Princess Eugenie moving down to 12th place.
Beatrice first revealed her pregnancy in two adorable family photos back in October. As she held hands in the middle of her father and big brother Wolfie as she traveled along a country lane and held hands in her father’s lap from behind. In another picture, an overjoyed Beatrice – wearing a black puffer jacket – smiled at the camera, while being embraced by Edoardo, who was gazing at his wife. The new baby will be the Yorks’ fourth grandchild because Beatrice is Prince Andrew’s eldest daughter and his ex-wife Sarah.
