The city council approved the sale of the San Siro, which could have resulted in the iconic stadium being destroyed, according to Milan AC and Inter Milan.

After a protracted debate that lasted almost an hour, with debates raged for almost an hour, the two Milan clubs’ homes were approved.

The city government still needs to confirm the 99-year-old ground and its surrounding areas before it can be sold to both clubs for 197 million euros (£172 million).

The clubs referred to it as a “historical and decisive step for the clubs’ and the city’s future.”

Since 1926, Milan AC has played at the San Siro, but it hasn’t modernized since the 1990 World Cup.

They are joint tenants with city rivals Inter, but their repeated efforts to modernize it have failed.

As part of a significant urban regeneration project, the clubs intend to construct a new 71, 500-capacity stadium, with the goal of completion by Euro 2032, which Italy and Turkey are both hosting jointly.

The clubs hired architects to create a new ground last week.
