After guiding the club to victory in the Europa League, Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal, according to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, was “emotionally challenging.”
Spurs won their first major trophy in 17 years when the Australian won the match 1-0 over Manchester United in the final in Bilbao, which was immediately followed by the Australian’s removal from his duties just 16 days later.
Postecoglou made up for his side’s poor domestic campaign, which saw them finish 17th in the Premier League with Thomas Frank joining in his place.
“I’m very grateful to Ange, and I don’t regret hiring her.” Levy told the club’s media team, “We finished fifth in his first season and we were over the moon to win a trophy.”
However, we felt a change was necessary because we must compete in every competition.
Levy has been in charge of Tottenham for more than 25 years, with Frank becoming the club’s 13th permanent manager at the time.
I have very broad shoulders, Levy said.
The desire to succeed is not an option, as the saying goes. And because it’s so challenging, I want to succeed even more.
After seven successful years at Brentford, Levy and Vinai Venkatesham, the newly appointed Spurs chief executive, were both involved in the hiring process.
The 51-year-old Dane has agreed to continue in charge of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until 2028.
We conducted a very thorough process, Venkatesham asserted.
Through our technical staff, we thoroughly analyzed more than 30 candidates for the 10 qualities we believe are necessary for a successful manager at Tottenham Hotspur.
Thomas was unquestionably on the shortlist, and we spent a lot of time with him.
We’re looking forward to welcoming him to the club with more fervor.
“I really look forward to seeing what he can do with the squad we have here,” I’ve personally got excited about because he is an outstanding developer of young players.
Levy continued, “Every time you have a new coach, it’s a fresh start. We want to capitalize on the success of our trophy-winning season because [there are] always new ideas.
