Sabrina has bagged herself her first major film move, and this time its a musical take on a British classic we all know and love. While her role is yet to be announced, we expect it to be big.

Sabrina Carpenter has landed her first major acting role in a big Hollywood movie. But this film is different from her previous roles, it’s a spin on the British classic Alice in Wonderland.

Her role, which is yet to be released, will require her to both act and sing, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Sources revealed that the movie is a passion project for the pop star, as she approached the studio a year ago with specific ideas and even a look book, which doesn’t come as a huge surprise as Sabrina has been a long time fan of Alice in Wonderland.

In 2021, she revealed it is one of her favourite movies, most probably referring to the original 1951 Disney film which she said. “I’m a huge fan of Alice in Wonderland and over the years, my fans will bring me Alice in Wonderland-themed things. Someone actually sent me an original illustration from one of the original sketches from Alice in Wonderland, which is crazy,” she told Interview Magazine.

The musical’s release date is yet to be announced. The new take on the film will be based on the original, Lewis Carroll’s novel which follows Alice as she falls through a rabbit hole and ends up in a fantasy world full of odd creatures and an adventure.

This isn’t the first time the book has inspired new creations, previously it has inspired the 1951 Disney cartoon movie and more recently, the 2010 film that features Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska, and its sequel which slightly changes the story seeing Alice end up in the fantasy world through a looking glass.

This version will be written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, however it has not been disclosed which direction the film will go into but there is the possibility of it being targeted to Gen z’s as oppose to children considering Sabrina is 26 years old.

This is a first for Sabrina, but we can imagine it certainly won’t be a last – as she’s hoping to variety her acting roles, currently she has a great resume and her music career is going well as she’s had a great year, with her seventh studio album, Man’s Best Friend.
