The singer has described the new album Man’s Best Friend as a “party for heartbreak,” and it’s thought to make reference to Barry Keoghan, her ex-boyfriend.
Sabrina Carpenter appears to have revealed the truth behind her split from Barry Keoghan. Many people have speculated that one song on Man’s Best Friend could be about the Saltburn actor and their “turbulent” relationship.
Fans believe Barry, 32, who is thought to be her most recent ex-partner, was the inspiration for some of the lyrics on the album after their breakup last year, but the singer, 26, won’t name him. The Grammy-nominated singer sings about the apparent breakdown of a relationship in the closing song Goodbye.
She sings, “Broke my heart on Saturday,” in the opening verse. You’ll change your feelings, I assure you over night. And I nearly passed out after so much crying. It suggests that it was her partner, who is thought to be Barry, who left, perhaps not for the last time, just like the chorus suggests.
Then Sabrina sings, “Goodbye means that you’re losing me for life,” in the chorus. Did you forget that it was you who said goodbye when you can’t call it love and then call it quits?
Fans speculate that Barry might be the subject of Sabrina’s song Never Getting Laid, which has lyrics about a partner with a wandering eye, despite the absence of any indication of infidelity. He’s alleged to be mentioned in other songs, including Go Go Juice, where she playfully references ex-exes.
Sabrina has previously spoken about life since the break-up. Asked if she was single by Rolling Stone earlier this year, she said: “Am I doing the single thing right now? I’m doing the 25-year-old thing right now, whatever that means.”
She also addressed the difficulties of maintaining relationships in the public eye. People don’t realize how difficult it is to have relationships with people who aren’t already married and have relationships, according to Sabina.
She reportedly split from Barry towards the end of last year. A source told People at the time that they were both “young and career focused,” implying that it was a mutual choice to go their separate ways.
Following the split, Barry deactivated his Instagram account amid speculation and online abuse. As reported by People at the time, he said in a statement that he had faced “disgusting commentary” and was concerned about his family’s welfare.
Sabrina’s new album, which has also attracted attention over its ‘sexed-up’ lyrics, was released today. Posting about the album, Sabrina told fans: “Man’s Best Friend is out now x how special to make something out of pure inspiration and zero pressure. I don’t think I’ve had greater memories making something before.
With three of my most enlightened friends, Amy, Jack, and John, I broke the record. And I would if I could go back in time and experience these memories. We had a lot of fun, Goddamn! and it is audible!
“It’s a celebration of disappointment, a true party for heartache!” It’s laughing at yourself and your poor choices as the world unravels, and it’s wondering how loyalty and love return you to third wheeling, in a real 25-year-old voice!
You are familiar with her and deeply love her. Now it is yours. Happy Birthday to the Best Friend of the Man! everywhere right now. P.S. I suggest listening loud, orderly, top to bottom, with friends or by yourself! My favorite method of listening to this album is both on the album’s lyrical and sonically! (Go-Go juice or glass of white wine is optional)
