Former Strictly Come Dancing star Ruth Langsford shared details about her exchange with King Charles and Queen Camilla in her latest interview

Ruth Langsford has opened up about a personal chat she had with King Charles after he left her “star-struck”. The 65-year-old met the monarch and Queen Camilla in 2018 when they toured the ITV studios to mark the 90th anniversary of The Royal Television Society.

Known as Prince Charles at the time, he and Camilla mingled with the stars of ITV programmes and tucked into some food on the famous This Morning set. Reflecting on this time, Loose Women star Ruth revealed that the pair were keen to speak to her about Strictly Come Dancing.

Asked when she was last star-struck in an interview with Woman & Home Magazine, she said: “When I met King Charles – well, he was actually the Prince of Wales at the time.

“He and Camilla came for a tour of ITV, and spoke to me about Strictly and how much she loves the show.”

What’s more, although the monarch has often shown how much he enjoys dancing, he surprisingly claimed he wasn’t any good at it.

“He told me he couldn’t dance!,” Ruth revealed.

The trio’s encounter came a year after the former This Morning host danced in the competition with former professional dancer, turned judge, Anton Du Beke.

Recently reflecting on her time on the show, Ruth said she didn’t have enough time to dedicate to perfecting her dance routines.

The former contestant, who finished in ninth place, shared: “I’d be learning, and learning, and learning, and that would be the start, and then he’d show me the next section and he’d go, ‘right, from the top’ and I couldn’t remember it from the top.

“And Anton will back me up, because nobody believes me, I genuinely can say there was not one Saturday where I 100% knew my dance because I didn’t have enough time.

“I think there are people who maybe aren’t working, or that’s the sole thing they’re doing, but I was doing This Morning and Loose Women, so I never got to rehearsal till half past two in the afternoon, and you’re tired.”

She went on to tell The Mirror: “I wasn’t that person that did 10-12, hours of rehearsals a day because I couldn’t, and it was fine, and I just accepted that and I did what I could.”

Ruth isn’t the only former Strictly star to share a moment involving the royals.

This year’s contestant La Voix recently recently revealed details about what she witnessed at a royal party she was invited to perform at.

According to her, she saw the, now late, Queen Elizabeth II in a very different light when she showcased her dance moves.

She shared: “I’ve [performed] for the Royal Family for two years in a row. I did their New Year’s Eve party at the Dorchester for two years in a row for Prince William and Harry — it was their party and it was amazing.

“Obviously there were loads of NDAs signed and things that I’m not allowed to talk about – I can’t give you too much – but I can say I’m one of the only people to have watched the Queen dance to Uptown Funk, Queen Liz.”
