Fighting
- A child was among the 13 injured and nine reported dead in Sumy city, northeastern Ukraine, according to the governor of Volodymyr Artyukh.
- Moscow launched 81 drones over the course of an overnight attack, according to Kyiv’s military, with 37 drones falling and 39 of which were shot down by the air force.
- 17 Ukrainian drones were downed by air deference units in four different locations in two hours, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. Eleven of the drones were reportedly destroyed over the Kursk region, while the remaining six were taken down over Russia’s Belgorod and Voronezh regions, as well as Russian-occupied Crimea.
- Russia has accused a former British soldier, who was taken prisoner while fighting for Ukraine, of terrorism and mercenary charges. If found guilty, James Anderson could spend years behind bars. David Lammy, the minister of foreign affairs in the United Kingdom, stated that Anderson was aware of the situation and that the government would help with everything.
Russian gas and oil
- After Kyiv suspended the flow of Russian gas through Ukraine, Germany is expanding its natural gas import options, according to the Reuters news agency.
Politics &, diplomacy
- The Slovak government’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on Ukrainian Ambassador Myroslav Kastran to express a “strong protest” over claims that Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was a “mouthpiece” for Russia.
- In response, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry said it summoned Slovakia’s ambassador to reject accusations of interference in Slovakia’s internal affairs. The ministry, in a statement, also called on Slovakia to return to constructive dialogue.
- Pal Jonson, Sweden’s defense minister, announced a $1.2 billion aid package for Ukraine. Johnson stated that Stockholm was negotiating with Swedish and European suppliers to provide specialized drone and artillery equipment.
