Fighting

The Ukrainian villages Yantarne and Kalinove, both in the northeastern Kharkiv region, were taken by Russian soldiers, according to the Ministry of Defense.

Trump’s pick for national security adviser, Mike Waltz, told US news network ABC that “preparations are under way” for a meeting between Trump and Putin.
• Peter Szijjarto, Hungary’s minister of foreign affairs, stated that his nation would discuss its response to the new US sanctions on Russian oil and gas, which “pose serious challenges for central Europe.”

Environment

More than a month after two storm-stricken Russian oil tankers caused an oil spill in the Kerch Strait, which separates Krasnodar from the Ukrainian Crimean Peninsula, which Russia occupied and annexed in 2014, an emergency task force was dispatched to the southern Krasnodar region.
