Richard Spencer’s trainer won the famous sprint double when Run Boy Run won the Ayr Gold Cup.
After capturing another victory on 8-1 Candy in the Silver Cup, jockey George Wood snuck home with a 12-1 shot just over an hour later.
Owner Phil Cunningham was watching closely as Wood defeated Desert Falcon and Jubilee Walk, who both placed second and third.
Spencer claimed to have run in Portland the other day and that he thought he had done too much when we had a chat afterwards.
He is very fast, has a good cruising speed, and gave him a great ride despite the fact that we thought we were [six] the wrong side of the draw.
After the race, Cunningham felt emotional and clearly overjoyed.
He said, “It’s amazing, absolutely amazing.”
What about the jockey, exactly? I can’t thank George enough for the work he’s done for us over the past few years.
