A legendary Rock ‘n’ Roll frontman has announced retirement after 60 years working in iconic bands. David Coverdale is best known for his music career which included being the lead singer of Whitesnake and Deep Purple from 1973 to 1976.
The singer took to Whitesnake’s Instagram and YouTube page to announce the news where he said he has a “special” announcement for his fans.
Speaking in a video, Coverdale said: “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, brothers and sisters of the snake. Special announcement for you. After 50 years plus, an incredible journey with you, with Deep Purple, with Whitesnake, Jimmy Page.

“The last few years have been very evident to me that it’s time really for me to hang up my rock and roll platform shoes and my skintight jeans.”
He then went on to point to his hair and say: “As you can see, we’ve taken care of the lion’s wig, but it’s time for me to call it a day. I love you dearly.
“I thank everyone who’s assisted and supported me on this incredible journey, all the musicians, the crew, the fans, the family. It’s amazing, but it really is time for me to just enjoy my retirement, and I hope you can appreciate that once again. I love you with all my heart. Fairly well.”
The band put clips together of some of their best memories on stage along with a remix of Whitesnake’s 2011 song Forevermore.
Devastated fans took to the comments to say how gutted they were. Among commenters was Coverdale’s third wife Cindy.
She said: “So proud of you, Baby. You gave so much of yourself, so freely, and with so much love and care. Now you get to do whatever you want to.”
Earlier in the week David’s son Jasper posted his own tribute to his dad as he spoke about his huge career. Jasper said: “I know no greater man, nor any better father.
“For the family I was born into is one of international renown thanks to his empathy, talent and ability to connect with so many people the world over. And now, the next step… whatever you bloody well desire, Sir!
“Here’s to you, David Coverdale — father, husband, storyteller, warrior, artist… hero. Bravo, Dada, for a thousand thousand jobs well done. Let the histories honor you forevermore.”
David was born an raised in the north of England but moved to the US and became an American citizen back in 2007. He founded the iconic band Whitesnake after leaving Deep Purple in the late 1970s.
David is also dad to daughter Jessica, 47, from his first marriage to Julia Borkowski. The star hasn’t been on tour since 2022 after suffering a health battle.
