Robbie Williams wants to recreate his Better Man role by playing the chimp once more in a sequel.
The 50-year-old Take That star claims to have produced so many movies that he might need to make another one. Robbie told: “There is so much that didn’t make the movie. Only because we couldn’t fit it in – not because I was too embarrassed or ashamed to put it in… many stories. To fit everything in, it would have needed to be a five-hour movie. And I’m hoping it succeeds and there’s a Better Man 2 there. Better Man has taken £10million globally, although mostly in the UK.

It did not make a significant splash on its first US appearance, falling short of Hollywood stars Gladiator II and Wicked, but it did receive 88% from critics and 94% from viewers. Forbidden Road, its song, won the Golden Globes for best song.
A CGI chimpanzee played the lead role in the biopic at first, but Robbie didn’t want one. He told Aussie DJ Sean Brown: “I am an actor. For the past 30 years or so, I’ve been acting as a pop star. It is what I do”.
The biopic is about Stoke-born Robbie’s life until 2003 – the year he played three huge gigs at Knebworth to annoy Oasis, who only did two. A CGI chimp depicts Robbie because he always “felt like a performing monkey,” according to director Michael Gracey, who produced The Greatest Showman.

Robbie’s agonizing years of drug use and mental health struggles are also depicted in the movie. Robbie says his daughter Teddy, 12, “sneaked in” to a screening of the biopic – but it hasn’t put her off going into showbiz. He said: “She’s the child that wants to be famous the most – way more than I did. It’s terrifying. I tried to explain to her, ‘ It doesn’t fix you’. But she won’t listen to me, of course. After the film, she was like, ‘ Daddy, can I walk around the garden with you? ‘ And she held my hand and said, ‘ I get it'”.
Robbie, who had hits with songs such as Angels, Come Undone and Rock DJ, also has son Charlie, 10, daughter Coco, six, and four-year-old son Beau with wife Ayda Field.
Robbie’s attempt to win an Oscar was thwarted after his song’s eligibility was revoked because it sounded too much like another song. This past week, Forbidden Road was chosen for Best Original Song. However, it has since been ruled out of contention by Academy Award organizers. They claimed it resembles the 1973 movie The Last American Hero’s I Got a Name too much. Robbie’s song “incorporates material from an existing song that was not written for the film,” according to a letter sent out to Oscar voters in the music category.
