Rob Brydon, the star of Gavin and Stacey, revealed what it was really like to film the show’s final ever scenes, breaking new information about rumors of an onset feud.

The iconic sitcom from James Corden and Ruth Jones will be back on screens for the last time this Christmas, five years after the 2019 holiday special and 14 years after the show’s final three seasons ended in 2010.

According to reports, Rob’s Uncle Bryn might come to an abrupt end in what could turn out to be a major disappointment for viewers. However, the on-screen drama that is causing this festive return to Barry Island has dominated much of the discussion, with more attention given to the alleged conflict between former best friends James Corden and Mathew Horne.

Mat, who plays Gavin Shipman, and James, who plays his ever-popular sidekick Smithy, were once inseparable after meeting on the sitcom in 2007. But their friendship was tested by a disastrous run of collaborations in the 2010s – including a flop sitcom Horne &amp, Corden, a critically-panned film, Lesbian Vampire Killers, and a disastrous presenting gig at The BRITS. James himself acknowledged that they stopped seeing each other “263 days a year” and stopped at all.

There has been more rumors since they started filming this latest special, with claims that the stars have socialized less in their heyday than they did in the early 2000s, but this rumor only grew worse when Mat didn’t appear in James’ episode of Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.

However, Rob has quickly refuted any notions that the actors on the set had any negative feelings. In a recent interview, he claims that only watching the emotional final episode of the series made him realize how much they all shared a love for one another.

“We had such an emotional time”, says Rob. “And people might hear that and say, ‘ you’re just an actor’. But]it’s been] 17 years, you know, doing this. Everybody loves everybody. There’s nobody who doesn’t get on with anybody else on it. We all love each other”.

The Whose Line Is It Anyway star even shed a few tears as the final scenes were being filmed. There we were, as Rob puts it, knowing that this would be the very last episode, and there were several instances where I would feel like I was kind of filling up as I looked around and saw these people I’d been traveling with over the years, for lack of a better word, “journey.”

“It’s brought so much to all our lives, you know. with a character I find to be very simple. To me, wearing a pair of slippers feels like putting on a pair. There’s very little effort… required. Which is odd because I’m naturally very spiritual”!

Rob has taken care to avoid spoiling too much of “What’s Occurin” in the plot, but he’s confident that the real fans will enjoy their final visit to Barry Island. Speaking on this week’s new episode of Dish from Waitrose with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett OBE, he says: “I’ve not seen it yet, but the script is fantastic. I just don’t want to tempt fate]but] I think it’s going to be, I think it’s going to be really good”.

Early this summer, James and Ruth made the announcement that they would be joining forces for their final Gavin and Stacey appearance. Following James’ decision to relocate his family back to Britain after nine years in the States, his Late Late Show and its celeb-approved spin-offs like Carpool Karaoke established a global reputation.

Fans of Smithy and Nessa were not the only ones who were delighted by the news. The original cast included both Sat, who has since appeared in Bad Education, and Joanna Page, who has since played for Stacey. Speaking on the Dish podcast realest tomorrow, Rob says: “Isn’t]it] amazing? And what an absolute dream, you know, to be in something that is so beloved.

” Cause you can be in a hit show, but this… people want. The Christmas special will be broadcast on BBC One. However, it’s entirely up to the people to decide whether it’s the desired happy ending.

In an interview with The Big Issue last month, Ruth and James made the suggestion that Nessa and Smithy’s on-off romance might not go so smoothly. Ruth said:” I keep telling people this finale might not be what you are expecting. And I can assure you that we won’t be visiting again.

Meanwhile James added:” What people are going to see on Christmas Day is the culmination of a 20-year love story, which hopefully shows, if nothing else, that love is complicated and messy and for everyone. “

As for talks of feuds on set, James has also been quick to dismiss speculation. Despite having separate careers, both he and Mat have maintained that there has never been a negative relationship between them. Mat has since claimed that his disapproval of Piers and not his former co-star contributed to his decision to not appear in Life Stories.

Speaking earlier today to promote a BBC documentary about the final episode, James insisted the cast’s friendship was actually the key to Gavin &amp, Stacey’s success. He continued, “I believe the show is primarily about people who like each other and love.”

“It’s about family and friendship. As a group, they have a lot of warmth and love. None of that is faked, that’s all there in our relationships as a cast really. Watching people who get along and fall in love without conflicted is very pure, in my opinion. On Christmas Day, I hope people will feel that.

Rob Brydon is a guest on the newest Dish episode from Waitrose, which is available on all podcast providers starting on December 11.
