Rivers LG Workers Call-Off Strike After Fubara’s Intervention

Following a meeting with Governor Siminalayi Fubara at the Government House in Port Harcourt, local government workers in Rivers State have suspended their strike.

The dispute broke out in the Emohua Local Government Area, where recently re-elected Council Chairman Chidi Lloyd claimed some staff had been lied to be in a proper manner.

The meeting featured Chidi Lloyd, Chairman of Emohua LGA, and members of the Local Government Service Commission, as well as the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).

INCLUDE   Rivers State Pensions Board is disbanded by Fubara.

Although the outcome of the meeting is not disclosed in specifics, it suggests that the parties have come to an agreement that led to the suspension of the strike, which had earlier turned into a protest along the East–West Road axis.

Clifford Paul, president of Rivers State NULGE, made the announcement that the strike was suspended and assured that members’ grievances would be resolved following the closed-door meeting.

We’ve come to a decision. Paul stated that His Excellency has instructed that this issue be handled harmoniously. I’m urging all branch chairmen and officers to end the strike on behalf of the NULGE State Administrative Council. ”

Additionally, Israel Amadi, the governor’s representative, thanked the Governor for his intervention and described the discussions as being fruitful.

He claimed that his analysis was very fruitful. We are confident that the resolutions will be put into action because the Governor has provided clear instructions. ”
