Rivers Administrator Ibas Pledges to Restore Peace, Stability to Troubled State


Rivers State’s newly sworn-in sole administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has pledged to work with all parties to bring peace and stability to the state.
Following the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, President Bola Tinubu sworn in former vice admiral Ibas on Wednesday.
Due to a power conflict between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his ex-wife, Mr. Nyesom Wike, who is also the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the state has been in a protracted political crisis.
Fubara, his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the state’s legislature were suspended as a result of the crisis.
Ibas said after the ceremony at the Presidential Villa in Abuja that he was sworn in: “First of all, I think we are aware of the circumstances that led to this situation. In this broadcast, Mr. President made it very clear that the main concern is maintaining state law and order.
He emphasized the need for collaboration and said that “I believe that I will need to work with all other stakeholders to ensure that the people and government of River state and Nigeria as a whole are brought peace, order, security, and stability.”
