As he considered the effects of their celebrity status, Richard Madeley responded to claims that his daughter Chloe is not “liked” because of her ties to him and wife Judy Finnigan.
TV presenter Richard Madeley has opened about daughter Chloe’s claim that she isn’t “liked” because he and wife Judy Finnigan are her parents.
The Good Morning Britain presenter and his spouse are two of the most recognisable faces on British television. They share two children, including Chloe, while Judy has twin boys from her first marriage.
Chloe has also launched a career in a spotlight as a model, journalist and TV presenter. She was also married to former rugby star James Haskell, who she shares a three-year-old daughter with.
Speaking on Matt Willis’ On The Mend podcast, the Busted star read out a quote from Chloe where she said she “felt like people didn’t like her because of you both being her parents”.
Richard responded, “Well, if she said that, that’s what she said, and I believe she would probably respond differently if you asked her that question.”
In 1986, Richard and Judy wed in Granada Television’s first television series. When they first met, they were both married to different people.
From her first marriage to David Henshaw, Judy and the couple welcomed Jack and Chloe to add to their family.
They worked on a number of programmes, including This Morning (which they hosted from 1988 to 2001) and Richard & Judy on Channel 4 from 2001 to 2009.
Richard claims that their upbringing taught them how to deal with media scrutiny and intrusion, blaming “what their parents do” as a reason why none of my children have had a bad life experience.
The presenter remarked, “Chloe has entered the public eye with her work,” but she has background knowledge of how to handle it.
They have all searched for their own hideouts. They are aware of how to deal with the publicity monster’s sneer. They could always turn to us for advice, especially Chloe, who has probably the best reputation of all of them.
She married rugby player James Haskell, and that of course attracted a lot of attention. Which she was able to handle once more.
Because of what their parents do, I honestly don’t believe any of my children have anything negative to say. You can ask them, and I believe they will respond in the same way.
Richard continued to tell Matt Willis that he had a “horrible feeling” that he would have become addicted if he had tried drugs.
