Referee Bobby Madley has stated that he “hates” football’s use of video assistant referee technology because it removes the emotion from the game.
Madley serves as the English Football League’s (EFL)’s fourth official for Premier League games.
VAR is used throughout matches in England’s top flight, but the EFL does not use it in regular league games.
“Hate it, hate it,” the fan said. I still support League One and the Championship, Madley said during a talk on the technology in sport at the Cheltenham Science Festival.
“Little League One is a game because you score a goal, you look at the referee, you look at the assistant, he hasn’t raised his flag,” he said.
Football is a game where there could be just one minute, one goal, and that’s it because “[VAR] takes that emotion away.”
As a fan, I don’t really enjoy that experience because I have to wait and wait and wait and wait and wait for what feels like an eternity.
More will come later.
