Hollywood icon Gene Hackman may have secluded himself in a small town in the Southwest of the country, but he was a “vital role” in the neighborhood.

The film icon, who was 63, and his wife, pianist Betsy Arakawa, were discovered dead this week at the age of 95, with no indication of when they had been together prior to their deaths. Less than 90,000 people live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, which was a large, secluded home for the couple.

According to reports, the couple’s bodies had “mummified” after their deaths, while other reports suggested pills were discovered close to Betsy. Police confirm they have not ruled out this as a possible cause, but their family has suggested that the couple’s family has a possible cause of death, with the couple’s children claiming that initial tests did not find any gas leaks in the home.

Gene was a caring and considerate member of the local community despite having made famous roles in films like Superman, The French Connection, and The Royal Tenenbaums. Many people have now spoken out about the actor’s passing.

Tom Hill, a retired scientist, recounted having wine with Gene at Café Escalera and Aqua Santa in the city, in a report released on Friday that The Santa Fe New Mexican featured. He said, “He was very knowledgeable about wine.”

Gene served as a member of the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum’s board of trustees, according to a museum spokesperson who claimed the star had a “vital role in shaping the Museum’s early years” when it was in operation from 1997 to 2004. Gene made significant contributions to the Museum beyond his tenure as a trustee, most recently as the narrator of the Perry Miller Adato film Georgia O’Keeffe: A Life in Art. The Museum appreciates his strong support for the arts and cultural initiatives as well as his commitment to sharing Georgia O’Keeffe’s legacy.

Local restaurateur Brian Knox wrote in an online message that “the vibrancy of Santa Fe arts and food culture was fueled by their kindness and support of this community.” They provided little in exchange for creating memories and experiences that millions of residents and visitors have enjoyed. Gene and Betsy will forever be missed and forgotten.

Since Gene and Betsy’s bodies were discovered by maintenance workers on Wednesday, Sheriff Adan Mendoza has been providing updates on their deaths. The deaths have been deemed “suspicious” despite the fact that authorities have confirmed there was no evidence of forced entry.

There was no sign of a conflict, according to Sheriff Mendoza. You know there was no evidence that anything was missing or improperly located in the home, which would give the impression that something was wrong.

Leslie Anne Hackman, Gene’s daughter, said this week in the Daily Mail that she thought her father was in good health when she last saw him. She confirmed that he had not had “any major surgeries” in recent months and described him as having “very good physical condition.” He continued to practice yoga and Pilates several times per week, according to her. He was therefore in good health.
