Rebecca Ferguson considering Eurovision offers from other countries after UK snub
Rebecca Ferguson, the X Factor star, has confirmed she is interested in competing in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2025, but UK fans might find it surprising that she has been asked to sing for.
The singer, 38, rose to fame as a season seven contestant on The X Factor in 2010, but it appears she has a bigger singing competition in mind. Rebecca has a top ten album, four top 10 albums, and hit singles like Nothing’s Real but Love and I Hope, all of which have charted success since she first gained notoriety a decade and a half ago.
Now the Liverpudlian star has hinted she could take to the stage in Basel, Switzerland, in May this year as a contestant in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. However, she has revealed it is likely she will compete on behalf of another country, instead of the UK.
When asked if she would represent the UK at Eurovision, she made the surprise confession. “by a fan during a Q&, A session on TikTok. She replied:” Well, I’ve got something to tell you… Do you know what? No one’s messaged me… and I… no one’s messaged me to do it, erm, but what’s really interesting is I’ve had other offers from other countries to do Eurovision. And what they’ve said is, ‘ You can’t do it on your own, but you can do it as a duet. ‘ “
Rebecca continued, “I’m torn over when to do, so it’s weird for me because other countries have offered to sing with their artist at Eurovision.” But then I’m patriotic to me own country. But then at the same time, I’m like, ‘ Well, me own country hasn’t asked me. ‘ “
But she then added:” So, yeah… I’ve had offers to do Eurovision, but not for the UK. Which is sad if I end up working for another nation. “Her response sparked a frenzy of excitement from fans – with one declaring:” That’s mad regarding Eurovision! “And another wrote:” I’ll sing it with you, whatever it is. “
Other music stars have fought to enter Eurovision despite being otherwise unqualified to compete. American rap star Flo Rida surprised fans in 2021 when he doubled up with San Marino’s 2021 Eurovision entrant Senhit for their song, Adrenalina. Musicians will recall that Celine Dion won the show for the country in 1988 despite being from Canada, with the show coming back to Switzerland in 2025.
Rebecca’s confession has sparked a campaign to win her place in the upcoming contest among UK fans. Many people have petitioned X to allow the singer to perform for the UK and, hopefully, to defeat her European foe.
One fan on X demanded:” @BBC @BBCWorld – are we seeing this fam? “Another typed:” I’d scream, I loved her sm back in 2012. “And another fan wrote:” She has a great voice, could be an interesting choice #Eurovision. “
The 2025 Eurovision Song Contest is due to take place at the St. Jakobshalle arena in Basel, Switzerland, in May 2025. On Saturday, May 17, the contest’s grand finale will occur.
