‘Raye Deserves Support,’ Atiku, Obi Defend Corps Member Over Viral Video
Ushie Ushie Rita Uguamaye, also known as Raye, former vice president Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party (LP) candidate Peter Obi have supported corps member over her viral video in which she criticizes the government’s policies.
Recently, Raye, a corps member from Lagos, attacked President Bola Tinubu’s administration over the country’s rising living costs. After making comments about the state of the economy, she claimed that some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) officials threatened to sue her.
However, Atiku and Obi have praised the NYSC member and said she should be supported rather than be vilified.
A new generation of women who support the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere, embodies Raye’s spirit. I adore her bravery and wisdom, her fearless resolve to speak truth without fear of opposition, Atiku wrote on X.
She embodies the bravery of courageous women who have fought unwaveringly for the common good, such as Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo, and countless others.
Raye deserves support and encouragement rather than hostility. She is a shining example of Nigerian youth, a sign that the future leaders are already present and prepared to shape a better future. ”

According to Obi, Raye’s story “highlights a troubling trend in our country,” one in which voices of reason and truth are met with intimidation rather than dialogue and engagement.
The former governor of Anambra State stated that the NYSC member’s experience is also “not isolated.”
I’ve also been threatened for daring to make comments and suggestions. I’m now subject to harassment, harassment, and name-calling because I simply have solution-based opinions on government policies. These actions contradict democratic principles. Obi wrote on his X handle that a government that silences its citizens is not democratic or one that is accountable and good governance, and that is most frequently corrupt.
He demanded that the government of President Bola Tinubu “reflect deeply on its approach to dissent and acknowledge that constructive criticism is the foundation of democratic progress.”
The LP candidate for the 2023 election declared, “To all patriotic Nigerians, our country’s future and development depend on our collective courage to speak out against mismanagement, injustice, and intimidation.”
Never let fear stifle your voice. Stand up for the people of Nigeria, the country that we all envision, with accountability for leadership in areas like education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation, and freedom of speech that is sacrosanct.
