Anne Hathaway’ has played many iconic roles over the years – but it was her portrayal of Mia Thermopolis in ‘The Princess Diaries’ that really catapulted her to fame. In the movie, a regular girl finds out she’s actually royalty. But transforming herself from a geeky teen into a Princess doesn’t come easy for Mia.

Plus, an unscripted moment by Anne Hathaway sums this up so brilliantly that it was kept in the final version of the film. One moment caught on camera shows Mia tumbling on the benches during a conversation with her best friend, Lilly Moscovitz (played by Heather Matarazzo).

You may think this was planned – but Anne actually just tripped over in real life. The endearing blooper from the 2001 film has been spoken about on Reddit in recent weeks – and plenty of fans were surprised they’d never heard about this movie secret before.

A post asked: “What scenes happened accidentally but were kept in a movie or show? ” And one Anne Hathaway fan replied to the thread, showing the slip that wasn’t edited out.

Anne Hathaway herself, whose star turns include roles in ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ (2006) and ‘Ella Enchanted’ (2004), opened up to E! News about the iconic slip-up.

She recalled: “We were filming in San Francisco, predictably it had rained. We were outside, and we had to get the shot really fast because we were losing light. And we had to go on these bleachers and they did their best to wipe them down. “

Anne Hathaway shared a snippet of direction given by Garry Marshall, adding that he said: “Whenever Heather Matarazzo [is] at the bottom step, I want you to be at the top step of the bleacher. And you just walk back and forth, and we’re gonna get all of this information and it’s gonna be cute because you guys are moving. “

Hathaway disclosed that during filming, she had a little mishap – she “turned really fast”, slipped on a puddle, and couldn’t help but laugh.

The actress didn’t give the incident much thought until six months later when she saw that very same blooper had made it into the movie’s trailer. She said: “[Marshall] kept it because it was a charming moment. “

It’s not the only outtake that movie buffs have spotted in recent months. Earlier this year, Twilight fans were gobsmacked after spotting a blunder they’d never noticed for years.
