The Prince of Wales once admitted to having a “crazy” hobby that he didn’t share with his ex-husband, Prince William, but it seems he may have had a different perspective.
Prince William appears to have made a U-turn when it comes to one of his wife’s hobbies he previously called ‘crazy’. In 2023, the Princess of Wales made the unexpected admission that one of her loves was outdoor cold water swimming, saying: “The colder the better.”
It came as William, Kate and William’s aunt Princess Anne were interviewed by Anne’s son-in-law about sport for a special episode of the podcast The Good, The Bad and The Rugby. On it Kate, explained how even when it’s dark and wet she would seek out cold water, and explained that her husband thought that she was crazy.

William told how he has since entered the practice on a recent royal tour, which suggests Kate may have persuaded him of the benefits.
He met with members of the Colwyn Bay Blue Tits, a cold water swimming club, while on a visit to Wales earlier this week while enjoying a beach walk in Colwyn Bay.
He told them, he had now done some outdoor cold water swimming dips in Scotland and agreed that “you feel great afterwards”. He added: “I love it. I do a lot of yelling and screaming when I get in.”
Kate mentioned that she even wears a robe after swimming, which is appropriate. Kate made the comment while visiting Wales where they were supposed to meet the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team after a person was clad in a robe to keep warm in the rain.
Local mother Alison Cheeke told People, “She said she swims in cold water with one of them.” According to a Harvard Public Health article, swimming in cold water is thought to have a lot of positive psychological effects in addition to being good physical exercise.
The Princess adores water, without a doubt. She is also a qualified scuba diver, it was revealed in 2015. She was granted access to a depth of up to 98 feet (30 meters) after passing the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Advanced Open Water Diver certification.
Meanwhile, William enjoys a fear-inducing hobby. Kate was asked if William would still ride a motorbike occasionally during a royal engagement in the Scottish city of Dundee in 2015.
He is still riding it, she said. When he goes out on it, it always makes me cry. I’m terrified. I’m hoping to keep George away from it.
However, William, a father of three, said he wasn’t riding anymore while taking a trip to the Isle of Man TT motorcycle races. I need to reduce the intensity. I miss the big trips because it’s always been about being with everyone else.
