Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have both signed an open letter calling for a ban on a hot topic.
Prince Harry has issued a statement about his fears for the future as he and Meghan Markle supported a ban on a pressing issue.
It has emerged that both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have signed an open letter calling for a ban on AI superintelligence alongside a raft of celebrities and politicians. The letter is squarely aimed at tech giants such as Google, OpenAI and Meta, which are believed to be building forms of artificial intelligence designed to surpass humans at many tasks.
The letter, which also includes Will, the musician and Stephen Fry, has also been signed. The development of such AI is prohibited until “there is broad scientific consensus that it will be done safely and controllably, and there is strong public buy-in,” according to i.am, along with Sir Richard Branson and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak.

Harry also wrote a personal note in the letter, saying that AI should complement humanity rather than replace it. I think how wisely we steer will be the real test for progress, not how quickly we move. There is no second chance.
Harry, Meghan, and the other signatories are quoted as saying in the letter that “many leading AI companies have the stated goal of developing superintelligence that can significantly outperform all humans on essentially all cognitive tasks.”
This has raised issues involving national security risks, human extinction, and economic obsolescence and disempowerment, as well as loss of freedom, civil liberties, dignity, and control.
Harry and Meghan have previously expressed concern about the impact of social media on young people.
Earlier this month at the Project Healthy Minds event in New York City, Harry claimed that the digital world has “fundamentally changed how we experience reality”.
Meghan also praised the Archewell Foundation, a charitable organization that works with families affected by social media harms, saying that shared experience is more important than isolation for healing.
When Harry spoke about how prevalent mental health issues were, Harry said, “These are not separate problems for different people.
They “inflict intertwining wounds on the global community.” Public health, foreign policy, climate change, corporate design, and economic decisions all influence how we think about mental health.
Too frequently, a few powerful actors make decisions that affect everyone on earth and in every way.
He added that “the digital world has fundamentally altered how we experience reality – young people who are constantly subject to comparison, harassment, misinformation, and an attention economy designed to keep us scrolling without getting enough sleep and real human contact.”
